Your stories. Your privacy.
BookNerd.ai is a free writing and editing workspace. This notice explains what stays on your device, what is sent when you choose online features, and how to manage your data.
- Write and export on this device without an account.
- Google sign-in and cloud book backups are optional.
- Your writing is not sent to an AI generation service by this app.
1. Writing on your device
Manuscripts, drafts, the previous-draft recovery copy, snapshots, story notes, preferences and retained original uploads are stored in this browser. Search, formatting, chapter organization and exports run locally. Data saved in the unsigned device workspace is shared by people using the same browser profile. Signed-in device workspaces use separate Google-account identifiers, but browser storage is not an encrypted personal vault. Someone with access to the browser profile may access its stored data.
Clearing site data, using temporary browsing mode, storage limits or losing the device can remove local writing. Download independent backups. Signing out hides the current account workspace; it does not erase its device data. A workspace JSON backup contains device books, the current draft, snapshots and saved story notes, so treat that downloaded file as private.
2. Google sign-in
If you choose Google sign-in, Google Firebase Authentication provides an account identifier and basic profile details such as your name, email address and profile image. These details identify your workspace and show your profile. BookNerd does not receive your Google password. Signing in does not, by itself, turn on cloud book backups.
3. Optional cloud book backups
Cloud backup requires your confirmation in Manage Books. When enabled, saving a book uploads its title, chapter text and formatting, embedded images, saved visual-reference images, snapshots and related book metadata, such as its original filename and update time, to storage associated with your account. BookNerd checks the signed-in account before allowing access to cloud books. Books are not published or made searchable for other writers.
Original imported document file bytes, unsaved drafts, recovery copies, story notes and writing preferences stay on your device. Cloud backup is not a backup of everything in your browser. Turning it off stops future automatic book uploads and keeps existing cloud copies until you delete them. Downloading or restoring a workspace backup is a separate action.
4. Help and privacy requests
When you submit a support request, BookNerd stores your account identifier, selected topic, subject, message, optional contact email, status and submission time. Your manuscript is not attached automatically. A technical report is downloaded only when you request it and includes browser details, viewport size and feature status; it is not sent automatically. Avoid including passwords, API keys or unnecessary manuscript excerpts in a report.
5. Services and browser storage
Google Firebase supplies account sign-in. Cloudflare supplies application hosting and cloud storage infrastructure. The hosting platform may also use ChatGPT sign-in to control access to the site, separately from the Google account used inside BookNerd. These services process technical and security information, such as IP addresses, browser information and request times, under their own policies. Service processing may take place outside your country.
BookNerd uses browser storage for writing, preferences, account sessions and backup choices. The current app has no advertising or AI generation features, paid subscriptions or payment-card collection. Sharing a support request or enabling cloud backups sends the information described above; local editing does not require either action.

6. Retention, deletion and your choices
Device copies remain until you remove them or the browser clears them. Cloud books remain until you delete them or request their removal. Removing a cloud book does not erase independent copies on other devices or backups you downloaded. Account and support records remain for operating the service and handling requests; this release does not configure an automatic expiry for them. Service providers apply their own retention practices to authentication and security records. An app update does not automatically delete data saved by an earlier release.
You can export your writing, turn off future cloud backups, and delete books through Manage Books. For access, correction, account removal or other privacy questions, use Help & support → Privacy request while signed in with the account concerned. Verification may be needed before acting on an account request. Clearing BookNerd data in your browser is separate from deleting cloud data or a Google account.
7. Updates to this notice
The date above identifies this version. If data practices change, this notice will be updated. Review it before enabling an online feature or sharing personal information.
